Taking questions from an audience: Google Slides Q&A

Students or audience may be uncomfortable asking questions in front of a group

Google Slides has a new Q&A feature useful for taking questions from students during class. It can be used with both the UMB Google Apps for Education account as well as the regular Google account. It's simple and fast to set up.

Google Slides Q&A Described:
An instructor creates a presentation and activates a Q&A page URL which she/he shares with the students. Students access the Q&A url on their desktop, tablet or smart phone and ask questions using their Google account (their name is displayed) or anonymously without logging in to Google. Students are able to vote a question up or down. The most voted up questions move to the top making it easier to sort when there are many questions. The instructor displays the questions on the screen while answering them.

Getting Started

To start a Slides Q&A, first create a presentation by going to http://slides.google.com then follow the instructions below:

Start a Q&A session

  • Open a presentation in Google Slides.
  • At the top, next to "Present," click the Down arrow.
  • Click Presenter View.
  • In the new window, click Audience tools.
    • To start a new session, click Start new.
    • To resume a recent session, click Continue recent.
  • To stop accepting questions, click the on/off switch in the Q&A window.
